Taxonomy of Fern Flora from Shishikoh Mountains, District Chitral KP, Pakistan

Abstract


Nine taxa of Pteridophytes belonging to 5 families and 7 genera were documented during the current survey from Shishikoh Valley, District Chitral. In documented taxa Pteridaceae was the leading family with 3 genera (42.85%) and 3 species (33.33%); followed by Cystopteridaceae with 1 genus (14.28%) and 3 species (33.33%); Aspleniaceae with one genus (14.28%) and 1 species (11.11%), Equisetaceae and Dryopteridaceae with one genus (14.28%) and 1 species (11.11%) in each. The most frequently occurring genera were Cystopteris, Asplenium, Polytrichum, Equecatum, Adiantum, Cryptogramma and Cheilathes. Of these 2 species were found on Mix vegetation zone, 1 specie found on Residentail zone, 2 species in Sub Alpine pasture zone, 2 species in Juniperus steepe zone and 3 species were found on Stony slope zone.
