Abstract

ABSTRACT The soil application of humic acid and bread yeast as a foliar spray play a vital role in tomato growth, production and fruit quality. The experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of humic acid and bread yeast on the growth, yield and quality of tomato cv. Riogrand. The soil application of humic acid @ 0, 10, 20 kg ha-1 were given to the main plots and bread yeast levels @ 0, 6, 12, 18, 24 g L-1 were applied to subplots as a foliar spray. The results depicted significant variations in all growth, yield and quality attributes of tomato. The application humic acid @ 10 kg ha-1 significantly increased plant height, number of flowers cluster-1, number of flower cluster plant-1, number of fruit cluster-1 , number of fruits plant-1 , fruit diameter, fruit weight, fruit length , fruit volume, yield, fruit firmness , total soluble solids and ascorbic acid content. Similarly folia application of bread yeast @18 g L-1 significantly enhanced all vegetative and yield traits such as plant height, number of flowers cluster-1, number of flower cluster plant-1 ,number of fruit cluster-1 , fruit diameter , number of fruits plant-1, fruit weight, fruit length, fruit volume, fruit firmness, total soluble solids, ascorbic acid content and yield. It was concluded that maximum yield and better quality of tomato fruit were obtained with the application of humic acid @ 10 kg ha-1 and bread yeast @ 18 g L-1. The interaction of humic acid and bread yeast caused significant increase in fruit length, plant height, fruit weight, fruits plant-1, TSS and yield.
