Origin, Physiochemical composition and bio medical importance of Rauwolfia Serpentina: A review

Abstract


Rauwolfia serpentina is an shrub like plants that is belong the to the Apocynaceae family. The leaves of this plant are epitillial. The growths height of this plant between 60 and 90cm and diameter is o.5. it is spear shaped plants. Rauwolfia serpentine is an flowering plants. Its flowers colour is pink and white. In acidic and neutral soil this plants grows very well. It is medicinal plants. The root, stem, and leaf all contain the active ingredient, which has medicinal properties. Maximum amount of phytochemical present in the roots parts of flowers. Due to their characteristics and chemical structures, they have been classified into six major categories, which include lipids, nitrogen containing compounds, terpinoids, carbohydrates, alkaloids and phenolics. It has been used as an ant parasitic drugs, as counteract against bites of other poisonous insects, snakebite and, in diarrhea, cholera, dysentery and as an agent that induces contractions of the uterus. The outcome of the pharmacological investigations carried out on this drug because of its use in the treatment of high blood pressure and in the treatment of hyperpiesia.
