Sadia Kaukab
Abstract

The new variety PUNJAB MASOOR-2020 is an outcome of hybridization of (01503 x NL-2002) followed by bulk-pedigree method of selection. This strain was tested in a series of trials on research stations and throughout the Lentil growing areas of Punjab and it out yielded check variety Pb.M-2009. In National Uniform Yield Trial (NUYT) it surpassed the check variety Pb.M-09. Its maximum yield potential of 2925 kg/ha was achieved in Preliminary Yield Trial in 2014-15. The new strain is moderately resistant to Lentil Rust, Botrytis Grey Mold and resistant to collar rot and Fusarium Wilt diseases. In addition to this, it has good adaptability under different ecological environments. It is suitable for all areas of Punjab province. It produced an overall higher grain yield over check variety Pb.M-09. The new variety PUNJAB MASOOR-2020 produced 41.13% and 63.41% higher grain yield than the check variety in Yield & Disease Screening Nursery, during 2012-13 and 2013-14 respectively. The new variety PUNJAB MASOOR-2020 produced 1.35% and 15.07% higher grain yield than the check variety in Preliminary & Advanced Yield Trials, respectively It consistently surpassed the check with 15.71 % higher grain in Micro yield trial conducted at different locations. This variety out yielded check varieties in National Uniform Yield Trials by 14.21 % and 7.34% increase in grain yield in 2016-17and 2017-18 respectively. On over all bases, in all the trials, it produced higher yield than standard check Punjab Masoor-2009.
