AVAILABILITY OF PHOSPHORUS, MICRONUTRIENTS AND SOIL PROPERTIES AS INFLUENCED BY TRCHODERMA IN WHEAT CROP

Hamida Bini
Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to examine the effect of trichoderma on the availability and the uptake of phosphorus (P) and micronutrients (Cu, Fe, Zn and Mn) at Agriculture Research Institute, Mingora Swat during 2016-17. The experiment was carried in randomized complete block design with split plot arrangement and replicated three times. Wheat variety Pirsabaq 2005 was sown after the application of trichoderma alone and in a combination with compost and phosphorus sources Rock Phosphate (RP) and Single Super Phosphate (SSP). Compost was applied to the main plot, having two levels 0 and 10 ton ha-1, while trichoderma and phosphorus sources were applied at the rate of 5 and 90 kg ha-1 to the sub plots. The experimental site was non-saline, silt loam in texture and with almost neutral pH (6.9). The concentration of phosphorus was 3.92 mg kg-1 and organic matter was 1.21% while the concentration of micronutrients was in adequate and marginal range. Post-harvest soil analysis for each sub-plot showed the maximum content of extractable soil phosphorus (12.4 mg kg-1) in a plot where trichoderma was applied with SSP. The increased level of Cu (0.65 mg kg-1), Fe (7.64 mg kg-1), Zn (3.71 mg kg-1) and Mn (3.93 mg kg-1) were recorded in the plots where trichoderma and compost were applied. Application of trichoderma with organic fertilizer also improved the soil organic matter (2.09%). The availability of nutrients enhanced due to lowering of the soil pH with the application of trichoderma with other treatment. Similarly the maximum uptake of phosphorus and micronutrients were recorded by the application of trichoderma with RP. Hence it is concluded from this research work that the application of trichoderma alone and in combination with organic and inorganic fertilizer has the potential to improve soil fertility, nutrient uptake and their availability to the crop.
