Effects of Bast Fiber Seedling Film and Silicon Fertilizer in Seedling Stage on Lodging Resistance, Photosynthetic Characteristics and Yield of Rice

Gong Dian-kai
Abstract

Bast fiber seedling film and nano-silicon fertilizer, as emerging materials, play important roles in the rice production. This study was designed to investigate the effects of a combination of these two materials on the root system, lodging resistance, photosynthetic capacity, and yield of rice, with the aim of providing scientific basis for production applications. The results revealed that the use of bast fiber seedling film plus nano-silicon fertilizer could significantly increase the number of effective panicles in rice, with prominent yield-increasing effect. The combination of the two significantly elevated the chlorophyll content of rice in late growth stage, raised the net photosynthetic rate, and improved the dry matter accumulation. The mean root diameter, root volume, dry weight, and root-shoot ratio of rice seedlings treated with bast fiber film increased markedly compared to the controls. The rice treated with nano-silicon fertilizer exhibited shortened and thickened last internode length, reduced plant height, and enhanced single-stem breaking-resistance, the lodging index is significantly reduced, which thereby led to improved lodging resistance.
