Maria Chaudhry
Abstract

Nowadays, obesity is one of the significant medical issue around the world. Obesity is defined as becoming overweight and it may cause by the malnutrition. People who take a high fat diet and do very little physical activities are more likely to become obese. Obesity is also known as the mother disease and may lead to various disorders. Recent studies show that obesity is a crucial risk factor for type 2 diabetes. In the present study, the extract of Moringa oleifera leaves, step and roots was evaluated for anti-obesity activity in rats. The anti-obesity potential of Moringa oleifera extract was studied against high fat diet-induced obesity (HFD) in rats. We administrated streptozotocin drug which led to increase in the blood glucose level to investigate the effect of Moringa oleifera on blood sugar level for two weeks. In this study we also used Orel rehydration salt (ORS) water to increase the blood glucose level in rats because ORS contain above 13% sugar content. Here we designed three different doses of Moringa oleifera extract according to the body weight of the rats. We divided rats in to four groups first group is a standard group in with rats are fed with HFD for 12 weeks. And other three groups of rats were fed with 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg and 800mg/kg doses of M. oleifera extract along with HFD for 12 weeks to check the anti-obesity activity of M. oleifera. In previous studies they fed the rats with 200mg/kg, 400mg/kg and 600mg/kg doses. In this study we prepared an additional 800mg/kg dose to check the effect of this dose on obesity. Results shows in the significant change in body weight, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and in blood glucose level of the rats.
