ECOLOGICAL IMPACTS OF CURRENT FOREST MANAGEMNET PRACTICES IN SUB-TROPICAL PINE FORESTS IN KAROR SUB-DIVISION

TARIQ AHMAD
Abstract

This research work was conducted in the karor sub-division Rawalpindi. The geographical coordinates are latitude and longitude of study area is 33⁰ 44, N and 73⁰ 25, E and elevation of 3319 feet. The study area consists of 4654 hectares. Taking samples plots in randomly and different sites taking different perimeters such as density, age, height, diameter, percent composition. The most dominant specie his pinus roxburghii and other species such as olea ferrugenia, Qurcus species. The objective of this study is that assessing the current forest stand dynamics (age, density, composition). To compere current and previous forest management practices. In the karor forest sub division some of the chir species are found which affected by insect (insect name Platypus biformis) we noted that some insects attack Platypus biformis trunk of the tree after attacking the tree the tree color changes pale yellow after some days the tree became dry. The quality of wood was deteriorated by the insects. Mostly the insects attack of one side of the tree from bottom to the top. The beetle sucks resin of the tree. As the insects attack on the karor forest was pure stand one specie pinus roxburghii. Pheromones trapping system are integral part of integrated forest pest management system. Insects Pheromone is chemical substances which the insects use to attract their partners for collection. It is therefore, suggested that for the management of these affected trees install lindgren funnel trap and cross vane panel traps eight to ten per hectare with quercivorol, sulcatol and sulcatone lures. Long term strategy involves undertaking measures to bring the insect population build up factors under control particularly fire management. The results is that occurring the ecologically impacts disturb the forest management practices in karor forest sub division.
