CALCIUM-SORBITOL CHELATING TECHNOLOGY AND ITS APPLICATION IN POTATOES

PENGCHAO LI
Abstract

In order to develop a new type of calcium fertilizer for crops, sorbitol was used as chelating agent, and the optimum technological conditions of sorbitol chelated calcium were explored. The effects of sorbitol dosage, pH value, chelating time and temperature on the stability of the fertilizer were studied. The results of orthogonal test showed that the sorbitol dosage has the greatest influence on the stability of the chelating system. The optimum conditions for the synthesis were obtained as the sorbitol dosage of 12 g, the chelating temperature of 50 °C, the pH of 4 and the chelating time of 45 min. Then the sorbitol chelated calcium was applied on field potato plants. The results indicated that the yield of potatoes sprayed with sorbitol chelated calcium increased by 14.23%, and the marketable tuber percentage of potatoes increased by 3.58% compared with those of potatoes fertilized with inorganic calcium nitrate. In addition, the nitrate nitrogen content in potatoes sprayed with sorbitol chelated calcium decreased by 11.89%, and the accumulation of phosphorus and potassium in potato tubers also increased compared with potatoes fertilized with calcium nitrate.
