GROWTH RESPONSES TO ACCUMULATED LEAD AND CADMIUM UNDER INDIVIDUAL AND COMBINED TREATMENT OF ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD AND HEAVY METALS IN Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek (MUNG BEAN)

MUNIZA RIAZ
Abstract

The present study deals with the individual and combined effect of two stresses. First is heavy metals (lead and cadmium) and other is electromagnetic field (EMF) on the plant height, number of leaves, whole plant fresh and dry weight and accumulation of lead and cadmium contents in mung bean seedlings (Vigna radiata). The results showed a significant decline in plant height, number of leaves and whole plant fresh and dry weight as an increase in concentrations of lead and cadmium but a slight decrease in all growth parameters and biomass due to exposure to EMF. Whereas, the combined treatment of lead+EMF and cadmium+EMF cause a considerable decline in growth parameter and biomass of mung bean. A significant accumulation of lead and cadmium under individual treatment observed, but under combined treatment accumulation of lead and cadmium pronounce increased which directly affected the growth factors of mung bean seedlings.
