ISOLATION AND STUDY OF RHIZOSPHERIC BACTERIA FROM RICE FIELDS OF MIANWALI AND KHUSHAB DISTRICTS

AAMIR MUMTAZ
Abstract

This research was performed for the isolation and study of the bacteria playing an important role in the growth of the rice crop. Bacteria were isolated from rice fields. Soil from such rice fields was collected from different regions of district Mianwali and Khushab. These bacteria are of gram positive in nature. Majority of these bacteria are directly or indirectly involved in the production of an important hormone i.e. IAA .Some of them show a clear tendency towards phosphate solubilization. Rice fields of district Mianwali and Khushab show better yield due to these bacteria. PGPR is an efficient bio activator and bio fertilizer. Many strains of PGPR are discovered now. We better know the importance of phosphorous for the various activities of the crops but it’s unfortunate that phosphorous is least soluble in the soil. These micro organisms convert it into an inorganic form which is readily available to the crops. Many strains of PGPR promote IAA production (Haahtela et al,1990)the appearance of pink color by colorimeter is an indicator of IAA presence. PGPR are found in the root regions of the rice crops .PGPR study provided clear picture that they can be used in the near future to improve the productivity of rice crops in the Districts of Mianwali and Khushab.
