EFFECT OF VEGETATION COMPOSITION AND SOIL STRUCTURE ON INSECT COMMUNITIES IN DISTRICT DIR UPPER, KP, PAKISTAN

Dr.Ahmad Hussain
Abstract

The research was carried out to investigate the effect of vegetation and soil structure on insect communities in District Dir Upper during 2013 to 2015.Different sample plot are taken randomly from 45 localities in the study area .Composite method of sampling was used to collect the soil samples. Different analytical methods were used to determine soil pH, P, N and soil organic carbon and their effects on insect communities. The results were further analyzed using statistical techniques ANOVA with two factors. Various parameters had different values clearly showed that forest soil had variation in soil organic matter and physical and chemical properties of topsoil and greatly effect insect communities. Soil pH, phosphorus and potassium showed significant values among different type of forest at various depths and effect insect communities. Soil nitrogen and organic matter nearly showed significant relation. While EC, BD, showed no significant relation. Organic matter percentage was high as compared to other types of forest due to plant decay and litter fall and their relation on insect communities. Nitrogen Percentage was high in dense vegetation and medium vegetation and can possibly affect the current soil fertility and few other factors such as organic matter; soil BD, EC and phosphorous amount. The adaptability of the biological systems ought to be assessed to determinate the most suitable tree species and silvicultural management by forester and effect of vegetation and soil structure on insect communities in District Dir Upper.
