Abstract

The purpose of this research study was to evaluate phototactic response of white backed plant hopper (Sogotella Furcifera) in order to find out convenient and environment friendly ways to control the population size and epidemic seasonal outbreak on paddy crop. The response of Sogotella Furcifera was observed under different wavelength lights of blue, green, red, yellow and traditional black colors under field condition. The yield response of IRRI 6 was also observed under those light colors. This research study revealed significant effects on captures of Sogotella Furcifera and yield response of IRRI 6 in relation to those light colors. The blue light was observed more effective in capturing of Sogotella Furcifera followed by red and green lights. However, yellow light and traditional black light was little attractive to Sogotella Furcifera. Similarly, yield response of IRRI 6 was mush higher under blue light followed by red and green light respectively. Comparatively, under filed condition, blue light color was found very effective in controlling population of Sogotella Furcifera and could significantly be increased yield response of IRRI 6. Therefore, light color traps particularly blue light may be effectively used to monitor and control the population of Sogotella Furcifera.
