A Study over Transformations the Parameters of Richards Growth Model into the Biologically Meaningful Parameters

Abstract


In this study, it is explained how the Richards model which is one of sigmoidal growth models is transformed into mechanical model with biological meaningful parameters such as maximum growth value, lag time and maximum specific growth rate. For this, firstly the equations of Logistic, Gompertz and Bertalanffy models, nonlinear sigmoidal growth models, with biologically meaningful parameters were just given in the table since transformations of these models into the mechanical models with biologically meaningful parameters were given in detail in literature. Secondly, the detail transformations of Richards growth model with biologically meaningful parameters calculated with the help of its first and second derivatives were given. The mechanical equation and biological meaningful parameters of the growth models used in this study were presented with tables. Using a study, parameter estimations of models with meaningful parameters were performed. Using comparison criteria such as Error Sum of Squares, Determination Coefficients and Akaike Information Criteria, the comparison was made.
