Abstract

Phosphorus, most important major element, is essential for plant growth and development as its contribution to plant dry weight is 0.2%. After nitrogen, it is the second mineral nutrient most commonly limiting the growth of crops. Agricultural soils are often rich in insoluble mineral phosphates but deficient in soluble orthophosphate. Phosphate Solubilizing Bacteria (PSB) play a vital role for making unavailable phosphorus to available phosphorus by mineralization of organic phosphate or by solubilization of inorganic phosphate by production of acids. Therefore, the present study was designed to evaluate the impact of PSB along with different concentrations of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) on growth of sunflower. It was observed that all inoculated treatments showed better results as compared to their respective control. Maximum plant height, root length, fresh weight, dry weight, P contents in shoot and P percentage in soil were observed in KS-28 which was followed by KS-15 at different DAP concentrations. It was observed that highest plant height, root length, fresh weight, dry weight, P contents in shoot and P percentage in soil possible with 75% of P recommendation. It is expected that findings of this study will help to develop improved strategy for enhancing the growth of sunflower with limited resources and also sustain the environment.
