Abstract

In order to explore the cotton stalks biochar to Xinjiang two soil types (Gray desert soil and Aeolian sandy soil) in continuous cropping cotton root physiological and ecological response of this study is the main economic crops in Xinjiang cotton as the research object, research by 1% and 3% biochar added quantity of the two soil types of soil nutrient, root physiology and morphology, and the influence of biomass accumulation of roots. The results might provide a scientific basis and theoretical guidance for optimal utilization of cotton straw and prevention of the continuous cultivation problems in cotton fields. The results showed that biochar application significantly increased the contents of organic matter, available nitrogen, available phosphorus and available potassium in two types of soils, and improved the soil pH. Cotton root physiological activity and root architecture were increased significantly by biochar application. Moreover, physiological activity and root morphology of cotton root in Aeolian sandy soil were better than in Grey desert soil with biochar application. Biochar can improve cotton yield by affecting cotton biomass distribution and optimizing root-shoot ratio. In general, biochar application could improve soil nutrients, physiological and morphology of root and cotton yield in continuous cultivated cotton fields in Xinjiang, while the soil improvement effect on Aeolian sandy soil was better than that on Grey desert soil. Besides, the highest of cotton yield in Grey desert soil with 3% biochar application, and in Aeolian sandy soil with 1% biochar application. The results of this study provide scientific basis and theoretical guidance for rational utilization of cotton straw and reduction of obstacles in continuous cropping of cotton in Xinjiang.
