Studies on drought tolerance indices of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes under water deficit conditions
Altaf Hussain
Abstract
An experiment was conducted for evaluating the drought tolerance of 10 wheat genotypes under water stress conditions. Experiment was conducted out in split plot design with three replications and two treatments i.e. (normal irrigations and water stress). Main factor was frequent irrigations and water stress while the sub factor was genotypes. From grain yield data obtained four selection indices such as stress susceptibility index(SSI), tolerance index (TOL), mean productivity (MP) and geometric mean productivity (GMP) were calculated. ANOVA showed that under study genotypes had meaningful differences for all the traits in treatment and genotypes however, treatment × genotypes were also had meaningful differences for all traits other than spike length and spikelets spike. Based on selection indices studied genotypes Bhittai, NIA Sarang and NIA Sunder considered as a drought tolerant. Sassui and SKD-1 drought tolerant under optimum water conditions. Other genotypes such as Marvi and Khirman were suitable to stress environments whereas, genotypes Kiran-95, NIA Amber and Hamal were the susceptible ones.
