Abstract

This study was planned to investigate the antibacterial and antifungal activity of hexane, ethyl acetate, chloroform, and methanol extracts of Arthrocnemum macrostachyum against thirteen bacterial and eight fungal isolates. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of different concentrations of extracts were analyzed by performing well-plate method. Maximum antibacterial activity was observed by methanolic extract and antifungal activity by hexane, methanolic and chloroform extracts. The plant extracts showed potential antifungal and antibacterial activity. These findings may support the use of Arthrocnemum macrostachyum whole plant as a strong antifungal traditional plant. Our results demonstrate that this plant have considerable therapeutic effects on potential infectious agents and can be used as an alternate to conventional medicines.
