EFFECT OF ENDOPHYTIC FUNGI ON PLANT GROWTH PROMOTION IN SOLANUM MELON GENA

Shakir Ullah
Abstract

Endophytic fungi are known plant symbionts which significantly contribute in the plant growth promotion. They produce a variety of bioactive secondary metabolites which are beneficial for plant growth and development. Endophytic fungi may play an important role in plant survival by enhancing nutrient uptake and producing growth-promoting metabolites such as gibberellins and auxins. In the present research work screened roots of Solanum melongena plant, for the growth promotion capabilities on pure dwarf berenj-e-lok (gati wriji) rice seedlings. The isolated endophytic fungi sr1, sr4, sr5, sr6, sr7, all these strain show significantly results in growth promotion capabilities of pure dwarf berenj-e-lok (gati wriji)rice seedlings. The roots part of Solanum melongena Wall. Plant was used for the isolation of these endophytic fungi. the selected three most commonly used media for the growth promotive endophytic fungi sr1, sr4, sr5, sr6 and sr7 respectively is hagem media, potato dextrose media and czapek media these media support a broad range of fungal species growth and that also results in varying mycelia biomass and secret secondary metabolites in media. Similarly, the endophytic fungi SR6 also contribute in growth shoot and root length SR7 is growth promotive isolated endophytic fungi significantly increased the sooth length, shoot fresh weight root length, root fresh weight, chlorophyll content and total length as compared to negative (DW) and positive (czapek) controls. In conclusion, the isolated endophytic fungi were observed for the growth promotion capabilities of pure dwarf berenj-e-lok (gati wriji) rice seedlings which showed a significant effect on plant growth promotion and development.
