EFFECT OF COMPOST EXTRACT ON TOMATO CULTURE UNDER SALT STRESS

RAOUDHA KHANFIR BEN JENANA
Abstract

This work is carried out to study the effect of compost extract composed of sheep manure, bovine manure, poultry droppings and milled straw, applied by irrigation, foliar spraying and simultaneous irrigation and foliar spraying, on growth, production, quality and yield parameters of tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L. var Savera), as well as the incidence of leaf diseases (caused by Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary and Leveillula taurica (Lév.) G. Arnaud) on this crop subjected to two salt concentrations 3g/l and 6g/l. The doses of the compost extracts applied were increasing from one development stage to another, 50ml at the time of recovery, 100ml during vegetative growth and 150ml till the end of the cycle. The essay was conducted in open fields in the experimental station of the Regional Center of Agricultural Research of Sidi Bouzid (CRRA). The results showed that the growth and production parameters increased in the plants treated with compost extract, applied by spraying combined with irrigation under the two applied salinity. The treatment of tomato plant with the compost extract also improved the yield, as well as the fruit quality. The application of the compost extract also reduced the leaf disease incidence of powdery mildew (Leveilula taurica) and downy mildew (Phytophthora infestans) on treated plants.
