Abstract

Maize is the most significant crop throughout the world with respect to yield production. To assess the genetics of yield and yield characters an experiment were executed at field area of CCRI, for the duration of 2015-16. Six Maize genotypes were sown in the glasshouse. At the flowering stage crosses were attempted in all potential combinations. The six parents and 30 F1 genotypes were sown in the experimental area within randomizedacomplete blockadesign in 3 replications. Data for different traits was collected using standard procedures from field when crop is at maturity stage. Data found to be significant for most of the traits when subjected to RBCD. According to GCA estimates, the parent Azam and pahari verified to be the good general combiner for majority of the traits like days to pollen shedding,, days to silk emergence, leaf area, plant height, ear height, fresh ear weight, grains moisture%, ear length, grain yield and harvest index.. The combination Jalal×Pahari had high SCA effects for most of the important traits of maize i.e. Shelling % and grains yield. the cross sarhad white×Jalal exposed good reciprocal effects for most of the maize traits i.e. plant height, , number of rows ear-1, 100 grains weight, number of grains ear-1, fresh ear weight, ear diameter, ear height, days to silk emergence and ear length by exposing data to diallel analysis by means of Griffing’s approach model-1 and method-1. Highest reciprocal effect for grain yield results of Azam x Iqbal in research experiment. Highly Significant grainayield in this diallel cross was achievedawhen genotypes Azam was used as a femaleaparent and highly significant Plant height was achieved when genotype Iqbal was used as a female parent. This diallel cross accumulate that cross combination that comprised one parent with best GCAaeffect and the otheraparent with bad GCAaeffect can have very appeased performance.
