TRANSCRIPTOME ANALYSIS OF RED MAPLE (ACER RUBRUM L.) LEAF DURING THE COLOR CHANGING PERIOD

YUYING WANG
Abstract

This study conducted RNA-seq base transcriptome analysis is to investigate the transcriptomic and molecular change during the period of red maple (Acer rubrum L) leaf color change by high-throughput sequencing technologies. By using the techniques of transcriptome sequencing and qPCR analysis, it provides the first comprehensive transcriptome dataset characterizing red maple gene expression during the leaf color change. The sequencing results showed that 72957 unigenes are detected. The total length of the bunigenes is 57053612nt with an average length of 782nt. Further, it identified some unigenes that may be involved in regulation of de novo anthocyanin biosynthesis. In particular, a number of unigenes encoding desaturase for formation of anthocyanins were identifed, with high expression levels in the red color changed period compared with the green period of leaf changing. These findings provide insights for further studies on the molecular mechanisms underlying anthocyanin biosynthesis during the color change period in red maple.
