Abstract

Seven genotypes of Elaeagnus umbellate fruits namely, Rawalakot, Khaigala, Akhorban, Alisojal, Phitkot, Baikh and Singola were nominated from the area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to evaluate the physico-chemical, functional and antioxidant properties in present study. Proximate composition such as crude protein (2.78 to 5.04%), ash content (1.50 to 3.99%), crude fiber (3.29 to 4.53%), crude fat (2.20 to 3.18%) and carbohydrate (8.90 to 12.59%) was investigated in the fruit samples on base of dry weight. The variations in data were observed in all genotypes. Chemical and Functional properties of fruit viz. total soluble solid contents (12.20 to 14.44%), titratable acidity (0.40 and 1.56%), pH values (3.23 to 4.01), ascorbic acid content (21.90 to 23.21mg/100g), lycopene concentration (51.24 to 59.37mg/100g) and total sugars (7.77 to 6.02%) were also noted. The data pertaining to mineral contents (mg/100 g) revealed K as the predominant element (2040–3000) followed by P, Mg, Ca, Na and Fe among all the tested samples. The general data related to mineral composition K was exposed prominent (365.83-480.79mg/100g) followed by Ca, Na, Mg, P and Fe. The fruit extract showed highest inhibition against TBARS in iron (II) sulphate (10µM) and sodium nitroprusside (5µM) induced lipid peroxidation. All genotypes were observed big source of nutrition.
