Abstract

Mushrooms are macro fungi having fleshy soft and umbrella like fruiting body which bear fertile spores. Present study of some hard mushrooms like Bjerkandera adusta, Bracket fungi, Clavatia gigantum, Daedaleopsis confragosa, Ganoderma lucidum,Fomes fomentarius and Trametes versicolor collected from District Kotli Azad Jammu and Kashmir was carried out for inhibitory activity of some human pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus mirabillus, by paper disc diffusion method using four solvents viz acetone, ethyl alcohol, methanol and water. Streptomycin was used as positive control. Inhibitory results revealed that methanol extract of B. adusta showed highest inhibitory zone against P. aeruginosa, while smallest zone was observed in acetone for S. aureus. In B. fungi, highest inhibitory zone was seen in water extract relative to P. mirabillus, while least inhibitory zone was analyzed in methanol against K. pneumoniae.C. gigantum showed highest zone of inhibition in acetone extract, for P. aeruginosa, while minimum zone of inhibition was observed in water against S. aureus. In D. confragosa highest zone of inhibition was measured in acetone extract for K. pneumoniae. While, lowest inhibitory zone was recorded in acetone against P. aeruginosa. For F. fomentarius, E. alcohol extract showed highest inhibitory zone against P. aeruginosa, while water extract showed lowest zone of inhibition for S. aureus. In G. lucidum highest zone of inhibition was observed in acetone extract relative to P. aeruginosa and lowest zone of inhibition was seen in water for P. aeruginosa. For T. versicolor maximum zone of inhibition was determined in ethyl alcohol extract for S. aureus while, minimum zone was in water.
