THREE NEW RECORDS OF THE GENUS PYRUS FROM PAKISTAN

Abstract


The aims of the current research work were to explore, identify, document Pyrus (Pears) species from Pakistan and their addition to the flora of Pakistan. During 2010-2011 several field survey were carried out and specimens were collected, processed and identified with the available literature. Through careful evaluation and identification, three new records of the genus Pyrus L. (Rosaceae) viz., P. pseudopashia, P. turcomonica and P. xerophylla are reporting for the Flora of Pakistan and knowledge upgradation. Their detailed morphological description, flowering and fruiting period, ecological notes, distribution, GPS coordinates, altitudes and voucher specimens and number are given. Pictures, distribution map and a table of comparative differentiating characters of these species have also been provided in this account. Key words: New records, Pyrus (Pears), Rosaceae, Pakistan.
