Causes and consequence of deforestation in Razika Seo Kohistan KPK, Pakistan

Abstract


The study outcome of research work conducted for the impact analysis causes and consequences deforestation of Razika valley Kohistan. The aim of the study is to assess deforestation trends and its underlying causes in the study area, to investigate likely impacts of deforestation on physical and biological environment on the community and to suggest the valuable option for the conservation of the forest and their resources. In line with the objectives of the study, following methodologies were used. Primary data questionnaire, interviews, personal observation. Secondary data literature review. This chapter is about the conclusions drawn from the entire study and by the analysis of data. As an overall, it’s concluded that the forest resources were depleted and also with high rate are depleting now days. The main causes of deforestation are identified that the local community have poverty is about 78% the day income of local community is Rs 20,000 – 35,000,lack of awareness is about 93 % recoded in study area the community literacy ratio among male and female is 18.74% and 2.025% respectively, seasonal variation is very huge difference which were recoded that in the winter season monthly consumption of wood is 1600Kg and the wood use is about 750Kg monthly in summer season, illegal cutting is 80% are observe in the study area. It is also conclude that the rate of deforestation is high in poor community area. Impact of deforestation on the biological environment in the local community fully depends on the forest sources for their requirements. The local community uses forest for their income is about 95% were observed, the forest is the also main source of income of the local community its observe about 77%, the local community also depend on the livestock if the forest are degraded which inversely effect on the livestock of the community and the local community involve in deforestation practice is about 93% were observe during the study. Impacts of deforestation on the physical environment the deforestation impact on environment mentioned in the study are recorded these impacts are Flooding is about 67%, loss of biodiversity is 60%, shortage of water59%, soil erosion 71%, Land sliding is 56% and climate change is 60%.Local community have low literacy rate and lack of alternative the community use forest sources unsustainable way. The local community of study area does not know the importance of forest sources and also the importance of the environment. If the responsible persons, department provide alternative and give awareness about the forest sources and environmental importance the local community will be use the forest source in sustainable way.
