DETERMINATION OF CORRELATION BETWEEN PLANT DISTRIBUTION AND ECOLOGICAL FACTORS IN NAROWAL DISTRICT PUNJAB, PAKISTAN

DR. ARIFA ZEREEN
Abstract

In order to study and develop a correlation between effects of environmental factors on vegetation distribution, multivariate techniques were employed. Sampled plant species of the selected area were identified with the help of Flora of Pakistan and Literature. About fifty nine species belonging to thirty four families were identified. Two Way Indicator Species Analysis (TWINSPAN) program was utilized for classification of plant communities and two major communities and six sub communities were identified. Water and soil samples were analyzed for pH, EC, soil colour and soil water content. Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) employed to correlate species distribution pattern to environmental factors showed that despite the fact many variables were strongly correlated, they were not performing any considerable role in grouping together of species. However soil pH and water EC are most important factors in distribution of vegetation.
