Abstract

Abstract Application of salicylic acid at different growth stages on maize varieties is important for increasing crop yield. This experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Research Farm, The University of Agriculture Peshawar, during spring 2023. Research consists of three factors: salicylic acid (0, 100, 200, 300), maize varieties (Azam, CS-200) and different growth stages (V8 and VT). All treated plots were randomly allotted in the RCBD (randomized complete block design) with three replications. Among the different levels of salicylic acid, maximum days to tasseling (59.3), days to silking (65.6), days to physiological maturity (101.8),¬¬ number of leaves plant-1 (13.6), leaf area plant-1 (5494 cm2), LAI (3.0), plant height (218.2 cm), rows ear-1 (13.1), grains row-1 (36.3), grains ear-1 (483), 1000 grains weight (303.5 g), grain yield (4951 kg ha-1), biological yield (14026 kg ha-1), harvest index (35.4 %), shelling percentage (82.5 %) In case of the varieties , maximum days to tasseling (59.3), days to silking (64.1), days to physiological maturity (101.8), number of leaves plant-1 (13.4), leaf area plant-1 (5501 cm2), LAI (3.0), plant height (218.4 cm), rows ear-1 (13.0), grains row-1 (35.6), grains ear-1 (488), 1000 grains weight (345.6 g), grain yield (5040 kg ha-1), biological yield (14305 kg ha-1), harvest index (35.3 %), shelling percentage (78.6 %). In case of the growth stages, maximum days to tasseling (59.3), days to silking (64.0), days to physiological maturity (101.2), number of leaves plant-1 (13.2), leaf area plant-1 (5198 cm2), LAI (2.8), plant height (213.2 cm), rows ear-1 (12.7), grains row-1 (35.6), grains ear-1 (457), 1000 grains weight (299.6 g), grain yield (4820 kg ha-1), biological yield (13831 kg ha-1), harvest index (34.9 %), shelling percentage (70.4 %). Interaction between salicylic acid levels, verities and growth stages (SA × V× GA) were found non-significant for the all parameters. It was concluded that salicylic acid application at the rate of 300 mgL-1 is recommended for improving growth, yield and yield components of spring maize in the agro-ecological condition of Peshawar.
