Abstract

Cleyera lipingensis (Hand.-Mazz.) T. L. Ming var. xiushanensis Zhe Zhang, Xin-Yun Lv & H. P. Deng var. nov. from Chongqing, China, is described and illustrated. It is similar to C. lipingensis var. lipingensis (Hand.-Mazz.) T. L. Ming and C. lipingensis var. taipinensis (H. Keng) T. L. Ming in leaves and fruits shape, and serrate leaf margin, but differs in its having bigger leaves (ca. 7–12 × 3–4.5 cm), more than 13 (–17) secondary veins on each side of midvein, usually 3 (–4) lobed of style with pubescent, and ovary 3 (–4) loculed ovary with 8–10 ovules per locule. Phylogenetic analyses based on nrITS confirmed that it is close to C. lipingensis var. lipingensis (Hand.-Mazz.) T. L. Ming.
