ROLE OF BIO-INOCULANTS AND PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS ON GROWTH, PHYSIOLOGY AND YIELD OF CARROT (DAUCUS CAROTA L.) UNDER HEAT STRESS

Rameez Hussain
Abstract

Naturally plants exposed to unfavorable environmental conditions which drastically affects the plants. Among all a-biotic stress, heat stress is considered as major threat towards the productivity of crop. To understand the effect of heat stress it is necessary to understand the molecular mechanism of heat stress of plants. This study was aimed to ascertain the effects of bio-inoculants and plant growth regulators on growth, physiology and yield of different carrot genotypes under heat stress conditions. A field experiment was carried out using randomized complete block design at Noor-Pur-Thal, Punjab during growing season 2022-23. Results of present study shows that heat stress adversely affects the yield contributing factors (root diameter, root length, root weight and leaf area) as well as the biochemical parameters. A clear cut decrease was noticed under heat stress and increase was detected in the level of antioxidant enzymes. When plants growing under heat stress were treated with bio-inoculants and plant growth regulators there was an increase in the growth of plants by increasing the rate of yield contributing factors as well as biochemical parameters which ultimately increased final yield of crop. Both PGR and bio-inoculants positively affect plant growth under heat stress however bio-inoculants proved to have more influence on plant growth and development as compared to plant growth regulators.
