Muhammad Idrees
Abstract

The study aimed to assess the physicochemical and microbial characteristics of drinking water samples collected from five different locations within Tehsil Kakki, district Bannu. A total of ten samples, each with three replicates, were collected from Bannu villages, Khuajri Jana Village, Khujari Khase, Asad Khujari, Shebaz Kakki, and Pir Khel Kakki. The samples underwent analysis for color, turbidity, odor, pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, total hardness, and total coliforms. Sensory evaluation indicated that all samples fell within safe ranges, except for tube water samples from Nar Sahib Khan Village (greenish) and Mama Khel Village (reddish). The pH of the samples ranged from 6.8 to 7.9, electrical conductivity from 32.45 μS/cm to 68.23 μS/cm, total dissolved solids from 288.7 mg/l to 458.2 mg/l, total hardness from 302.6 mg/l to 492.8 mg/l, and total coliform count from 0.00 MPN/100ml to 34.2 MPN/100ml. Overall, the results indicated that most parameters met the standard levels for safe drinking water, although some samples were deemed unfit for consumption due to elevated levels of certain parameters.
