CRISPR Cas9 Mediated Drought Tolerance in Lentil: A review

Zainab Tahir
Abstract

Now a day’s agriculture production is badly harm because plants are facing abiotic and biotic stresses regularly. Now there is an urgent need to bred cultivar that are tolerant to abiotic stresses by developing a technology that is sustainable and eco-friendly. In past conventional breeding method was use to generate crop plants that confer resistance against difference type of stresses but this techniques are not much more successful in making greater enhancement because abiotic stresses have complex heredity. Climate resilient cultivars have been developed by genome editing techniques based on CRISPR-Cas9 system. Likewise, the development of chickpea transgenic lines by knockout of 4CL and REV7 genes exhibits drought tolerance which establishes a foundation for future studies in chickpea. This review article discusses the validation of gene function based on the CRISPR-Cas9 for the development of abiotic stress-tolerant crop plants, emphasizing the chickpea to open the new ventures of generating abiotic stress-tolerant chickpea varieties.CRISPR-Cas9 system is not only use to produce abiotic stress tolerant cultivar but also boost potential yield under stress condition by producing non-transgenic plants of desired characters.
