Rameez Khan
Abstract
Lactarius pakistanicus sp. nov is described here in on several collections from conifers mixed forests from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is characterized by a dark reddish brown pileus, lamellae crowded, Stipe slightly rugulose, absence of hair, basidiospores globose to subglobose, reticulate ridges, completely connected, pleuromacrocystidia rare, pileipellis a broken hyphoepithelium to epithelium. Molecular phylogenetic analyses of nrITS performed using the maximum likelihood method supported the novelty of this Pakistani species and its placement within the genus Lactarius. A comparison with other morpho-anatomically close species confirmed that the newly described species is distinct from related species.
