Physiological Approaches to Improve Iron Efficiency in Varagu (Paspalum Scrobiculatum L.) for Sustainable Crop Productivity at Low Iron Status Soils

K. Ananthi
Abstract

At the moment, climate change is a significant obstacle to agricultural productivity. A great alternative crop for this situation is small millets. Nutri-cereals are highly drought tolerant and thus produce good yields even in dry drought conditions. The essential rain fed and drought tolerant crop is varagu and also iron deficiency is a significant cause of yield loss. This was discovered to have eradicated the iron shortage in crop cultivation and improved the ability to tolerate drought. It is an important crop that can grow up to 120 days with good photosynthetic capacity, among small grain crops, high in dietary fiber, starch, vitamin and amino acids, and can produce more yields in low water. A field experiment was done to investigate the relationship between photosynthetic capacities, growth analysis and yield production in varagu crop during its growing season through foliar spray. The effects of growth promoter spray on flag leaf area and hence growth-promotion and yield were investigated and the characteristics between them were determined. It was discovered that iron and urea foliar spray application improved growth attributes, physiological parameters and yield.
