COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF SOIL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES IN CHIRPINE FOREST LOCATED AT MAIN CAMPUS UNIVERSITY OF SWAT

Maaz Ali
Abstract

This research presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of soil physical properties within the Chir Pine (Pinus roxburghii) forest ecosystem located in the Main Campus of the University of Swat. The study aims to elucidate the influence of the forest cover on soil characteristics, providing crucial insights for sustainable forest management and ecosystem conservation efforts. Field surveys were conducted to assess various soil properties, including texture, moisture content, bulk density, and pH, at different depth intervals. The findings reveal notable variations in soil attributes between the forested areas and adjacent open spaces, indicating the substantial impact of the Chir Pine ecosystem on soil quality and composition. Specifically, the forested areas exhibited higher moisture content, lower bulk density, and distinct textural profiles compared to non-forested regions. Moreover, the pH levels demonstrated variations influenced by the presence of the Chir Pine vegetation. These results offer valuable information for understanding the ecological significance of the Chir Pine forest in the main Campus University of Swat and provide a baseline for implementing targeted soil conservation and management strategies. The research findings contribute to a broader understanding of forest-soil interactions, facilitating informed decision-making for sustainable land use practices in similar ecosystems.
