Hizbullah
Abstract

The present research was conducted to estimate heritability, selection response, genetic advance and phenotypic and genotypic correlation among various traits of 15 mungbean genotypes. A set of 15 mungbean genotypes was evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications at the University of Agriculture, Peshawar during Kharif 2022. Data were recorded on days to flowering, days to maturity, plant height, primary branches planr-1, pods plant-1, pod length, seeds pod-1, grain yield and 1000- grain weight. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among mungbean genotypes for all the studied traits. Minimum days to flowering (47.0 days) were recorded for genotype NFM-103-100, minimum days to maturity (56.0 days) were observed for genotype NFM-103-90. The genotype NFM-111-8 was highest in primary branches plant-1 (3.00), the genotype NM-2021 produced the tallest plants (84.22 cm), and the genotype NFM-103-233 produced the shortest plants (50.74 cm). Pod length was highest (9.30 cm) for genotype NM-2021, while maximum 1000-grain weight (54.4 g) was observed for genotype NFM-98-6. The maximum pods plant-1 (22.54), seeds pod-1 (13.20), and seed yield (983.72 kg ha-1) were recorded for genotype NFM-111-8. High broad sense heritability was recorded for days to flowering (0.77), days to maturity (0.86), plant height (0.84), primary branches (0.86), pods plant-1 (0.72), pod length (0.84), seeds pod-1 (0.74), seed yield (0.93), and 1000-grain weight (0.57). The expected selection response observed was 2.19 days for days to flowering, 4.33 days for days to maturity, 12.15 cm for plant height, 0.90 cm for pod length, 1.59 for seeds pod-1, 3.19 for pods plant-1, 0.73 for primary branches plant-1, 262.65 kg ha-1 for seed production and 5.73 g for 1000-grain weight. Seed yield was positive and significantly correlated with pods plant-1 (rp = 0.54*) and seeds pod-1 (0.64**) at phenotypic level, while at genotypic level seed yield was positive and significantly correlated with pods length (rg =0.61*), pods plant-1 (rg = 0.64**) and seeds pod-1 (rg = 0.76**). Mungbean genotypes, NFM-111-8, NFM-112-12 and NM-2021 were identified as high yielding genotypes and these genotypes could be included in further breeding programs for yield improvement in mungbean. Keywords: Moonbean, heritability, selection response, genetic advance, phenotypic and genotypic correlation
