CLIMATE CHANGE AND ITS IMPACT ON GLOBAL WARMING, PRECIPITATION AND ICE MELTING

Memoona Tariq
Abstract

Climate change is a global threat that put stress on various sectors. Unabated increase in greenhouse gases is principal cause of abrupt changes in temperature overall the world which effect precipitation (rain and snowfall) and ice melting. Carbon dioxide is considered as the most obvious aid in climate change. Earth temperature is increasing day by day from past to future due to rapid increase in carbon dioxide emission. The areas where temperature is increasing at highest rate are at mid to higher latitude. With increase in earth temperature, precipitation occurs mainly in rain instead of snow which leads to small snowpack. Snowpack will see significant impact from global warming .Specifically in the areas of main continent snow melt rate is increasing so chances for more run off and flood increases throughout the spring season but drought conditions are followed by these climatic changes during summer. Warmer temperature has a great influence on glaciers melting and temperature rise, glaciers melt at a higher rate and contribute to sea level rise. Glaciers are destroyed rapidly with rise in temperature in Glaciers National park .To mitigate with climate change and decline its impacts on global warming, snowpack and glaciers, so there is a need to take step to decline the net emission of Carbon dioxide and human activities.
