IMPACT OF DIFFERENT SOWING DATES ON YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF MUNGBEAN VARIETIES

Abstract
To investigate the effect of different sowing dates on yield and yield components of different mungbean varieties, an experiment was carried out during summer 2022 at Agronomy Research Farm, The University of Agriculture Peshawar. The experimental treatments were replicated three times in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with split plot arrangement. The main plot included sowing dates (27th May, 07th June, 17th June and 27th June), while varieties i.e. V1 (Ramzan-92), V2 (Ramzan-2005), V3 (NIFA MUNG-2017), V4 (NIFA MUNG-2019), V5 (NIFA Spinghar-2021) and V6 (NIFA Sikaram-2021) were allotted to the subplot. The results exhibited that among varieties Ramzan-92 had higher days to emergence (7), plants m-2 (28), nodules plant -1 (29), days to flowering (46), plant height (81 cm), days to maturity (81), number of pods plant-1 (30), pods m-2 (836), number of seeds pod-1 (9), thousand grains weight (36.3g), biological yield (3270 kg ha-1), grain yield (808 kg ha-1) and harvest index (24.3%) as compared to other varieties. In case of different sowing dates maximum plants m-2 (25), nodules plant -1 (28), plant height (76.6 cm), number of pods plant-1 (31), pods m-2 (763), number of seeds pod-1 (9), thousand grains weight (34.4 g), biological yield (3283 kg ha-1), grain yield (774 kg ha-1) and harvest index (23.4%) were recorded when mungbean was sown on 27th May. Higher days to flowering (46) and days to maturity (80) were recorded when plots were sown on 27th June. On the basis of results it was concluded that mungbean variety Ramzan-92 sown on 27th May performed better in terms of yield and yield related traits. It is therefore, recommended that Ramzan-92 should be sown on 27th May for higher growth, yield and yield components of mungbean in the agro-ecological conditions of Peshawar.
