Environmental Abiotic Stress Factors and its Harmful Effect on Various Plants Species: A Future Perspective of Climate Change in the Region

Abstract


Devastating climate change badly effect human health, natural system and especially agricultural production of the world. The effect of environmental variation on agriculture of developing countries including Pakistan is alarming as these countries show greater vulnerabilities and lesser ability to overcome the effect of climate change. This review was designed with the aim to ascertain the deleterious effect of climate change (drought, salinity, temperature, ultra violet radiation, Brick kiln emission, solar radiation, heavy metals and air pollution etc) on various plants species to understand plant responses. Here we studied the effect of various environmental stresses on different plants parts, system and process occurring in it. The most susceptible part in plants cells is chlorophyll which is deleteriously effected by climate change. Climate change mostly affects the chlorophylls contents up to 32% in various plant species, it may be due to the decline in the activity of the stomata and Rubisco enzymes, fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, rubisco activase, iso-enzymes of Glutamine synthatase because of its susceptibility to all environmental stresses. The overall effect of environmental changes on general plant growth was recorded 16% followed by carotenoid with 15%. The results of the study reveals that climate change mostly affects the process of photosynthesis resulting declination in plants growth, yield, resistivity and ultimately may cause plant death. To overcome these problems, there is need to develop climate change resistant’s and genetically modified plants varieties to ensure foods security in all over the world.
