Abstract

In Pakistan market with different name concoction juice is available and they claim about their purity, in our research we performed the comparative study between self-made and commercial product and found the efficacy of self-made concoction. The prevalence of dyslipidemia in Pakistan is 16–20 % in both men and women. Concoction is the combination base on the natural several ingredients, like garlic (Allium sativum L.) ginger (Zingiber officinale), lemon (Citrus aurantifolia), apple cider vinegar and honey. Concoction is a good combination can be used for different treatment like dyslipidemia, LDL, HDL etc. It was prepared after preliminary trial and evaluated for physiochemical, microbial and sensory parameters at two different temperatures [(0-4 oC) and (25-40 oC)] and in two different packaging (plastic bottles and glass bottles). Antioxidant activity, proximate, TSS, microbial and acidity of concoction product was determined. The dyslipidemic males and females (n= 4210) were approached from different hospitals and clinics from different areas. They were assessed through  biomarkers i. e. lipid profile,  Complete blood count (CBC), LDL, HDL, urea. Creatinine, Total Cholesterol (TC) and TGs. But selected n=75 males and females. The selected treatment of concoctions (T0, T4 and T8) was provided to the volunteers for 120 days. The data was analyzed statistically to validate the results of the study. The sensory parameters like color, taste, odor and overall acceptability found best score in treatment T3 (7.11±0.3, 6.96±0.2, 7.02±0.4, 6.98±0.1 respectively). In proximate analysis the best treatments are T4, T4, C1, C1, C2 and T4 were found in moisture, protein, ash, pH, acidity and TSS, respectively. In microbial growth (TPC, YMC), the maximum values found in T2 (4.66±0.7) and C1 (10.78±0.1) while lowest values found in C1 (3.85±0.9) and T4 (8.2±0.7) respectively. The maximum total antioxidant value found in T4 (75.66±0.219) while less in C4 (72.79±0.252). T4 illustrated significant improvement in the dyslipidemic related biomarker like it reduced TC (210- 178 mg/dL), TGs (216-143 mg/dL), LDL (157-132 mg/dL) and improve the level of HDL (45-52 mg/dL). Other parameters that were also decreased are Urea (14.41 to 13.11mg/dL), uric acid (5.99 to 5.91 mg/dL) and Creatinine (1.01 to 0.98 mg/dL). After these result it is concluded that self-made concoction T4 (Concoction stored in glass bottle at refrigerated temperature) showed best results overall and it is also appropriate and cost effective.
