MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF SOME LANDRACES TOMATOES (SOLANUM LYCOPERSICUM L.)

Yusuf ÇELİK
Abstract

Landraces tomato has taste, smell and aroma properties good. Local varieties are always valuable in breeding. One of their negative features is that they are not resistant to disease and preservation. In this study, it was aimed to establish a defined tomato gene pool. With the study, the characteristics of local tomato varieties will be determined and the breeding material defined for future breeding studies will be obtained. In this study, 30 local genotypes collected from different cities of Turkey and some morphological characteristics determined. Using the Upov criteria, 22 morphological features were determined. Also, all data obtained were analyzed using the Ward method in the JMP computer program for clustering analysis. There was anthocyanin formation in 30 (100 %) of 30 genotypes. Plant growth type were observed as “indeterminate” in 17 genotypes (56.6 %) and “determinate” in 13 genotypes (43.3 %) out of 30 genotypes. Inflorescence type was classified as “simple” for 16 genotypes (53.33 %) and “mixed” for 14 genotypes (46.66 %). Fruit weight was observed as 30-100 g in 5 genotypes and 100-300 g in 25 genotypes. Fruit height was measured as 30-45 mm for 2 genotypes (6.66%), 45-60 mm for 13 genotypes (43.33 %), 60-75 mm for 14 genotypes (46.66 %) and 75-90 mm for 1 genotypes (3.33 %). Data obtained from remaining 20 properties revealed that genotypes are grouped in 8 factors. As a result of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) of investigated characteristics from combinations, there was a variation at the rate of 80.671%. As a result of the research, half way materials were acquired that are thought to be used in obtaining qualified variety or varieties.
