ROLE OF ACIDIFICATION IN RESIDUE AND MANURE DECOMPOSITION AND ITS EFFECT ON WHEAT PERFORMANCE

Inzimam ul Haq
Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to optimize the quantity of N sources(S) and acidification (A) for improvement of soil fertility and performance of wheat. The acidification of the organic manure may accelerate the decomposition of the organic manure. Experiment was conducted at Agronomy Research Farm, the University of Agriculture Peshawar in Rabi 2021-22. The experiment was consisted of organic residue such as farmyard manure, Sheep manure, compost, maize residue, and sesbania residue will be analyzed for total nitrogen contents using kjeldhal procedure before incorporation in soil. The calculated amount of these residues will be applied 15 days before sowing, either will be sprayed with 2 L H2SO4 Mg-1 on organic residue, and thereafter will be soil incorporated using rotavator. The sowing was done on16 Nov.2021, using wheat variety Pirsabak-15 at seed rate 120 kg ha-1. N sources(S) and acidification (A) have significant effects on yield contributing component of wheat. The data revealed that the application of FYM increased spike m-2 (11%), grains spike-1 (12%), thousand grain weight (12%), grain yield (79%) and biological yield (32%), harvest index (26%) as compared to control. However the application of spike m-2 (279 m-2), grains spike-1 (43), thousand grain weight (39 g),  grain yield (3149 kg ha-1 ) and biological yield (10040 kg ha-1), harvest index (44.5%) as compared to no-acidification of organic residue Keywords: Acidification, Organic manure, Organic residue.
