Evaluation of New Basmati Lines in NUYT (National Uniform Yield Trials) in 2020
Muhammad Yousuf
Abstract
National Uniform Yield Trials (NUYT) are conducted in Pakistan for all major crops to evaluate new high yielding lines at different agro-ecological zones throughout country. It is also the major criteria for selection and release of new rice varieties. Better performing, high yielding and resistant varieties are selected through NUYT which will be planted in the future. 20 nominee varieties of basmati rice along with a check PK-1121 were evaluated at 10 research stations throughout the Pakistan in National Uniform Yield Trials (NUYT) during 2020. In the light of pooled analysis mean paddy yield of 5 varieties FBG-16, LH-111, Guard-101, FBG-15 and PK-10029-13-2-1 is significantly higher than check. 3 higher yielding varieties FBG-16, FBG-15 and PK-10029-13-2-1 are moderately resistant to bacterial blight. And all significantly high yielding varieties are resistant to leaf folder and highly resistant to stem borer. Head rice recovery of all high yielding varieties is also more than check variety. Therefore, based on mean paddy yield and resistance to insect pest and disease, varieties FBG-16, FBG-15 and PK-10029-13-2-1 whose paddy yield is 5050 kg/ha, 4733 kg/ha and 4586 kg/ha respectively can be recommended for general cultivation.
