Abstract

ABSTRACT The plant diversity of plants along newly constructed Mohamand-Bajuar Roadside, Pakistanwas analyzed. The study was carried out in spring 2021 to providefirsthandinformation about the existing flora. The study recorded 337 species, 254 genera of 83plant families. Nostoc commune (Family Nostocophyceaewas the onlysoil alga. TheBryophytes includedFunaria hygrometrica, Marchantia Sp. and Polytrichum communewith 3 genera and 3 families. Unidentified Lichen-patches were taken as one species.Dryopterissp. Adiantum capillus-veneris, and an unidentified fern of family Pteridaceae represented Pteridophytes. Ephedra ciliata. Pinus roxburghii,Thuja orientalis and Cupressus sempervirenspresenting 4 genera and3 families wereGymnosperms. Mesic 269(79.82%) and wild 291 (86.35%) species were important floristic components. Non-spiny plantsshared296(87.83%) species.Plants bearing simple-entire leaves were the leading members (220 sp; 65.28%) of the flora. There were 230 species (68.25%) deciduous species. Heliophytes (294 sp., 87.24%),annual (154 sp.; 45.70%) and perennial herbs 109(32.34%) were dominating. Therophytes with 143 (42.43%) and leptophylls with 111 (32.94%) were the most major life and leaf forms in the flora. Classification of life forms classes in taxonomic groups indicated that therophytes (130 sp), hemicryptophytes (48 sp.) and megaphanerophytes (40 sp) were the major contributors in Dicots. Hemicryptophytes (18 sp), geophytes (17 sp) and therophytes (10 sp) were dominants among the Monocots. Gymnosperms has 2 species in each of nanophanerophytes and megaphanerophytes. Leaf spectra revealed that leptophills (90 sp), microphylls (75 sp) and nanophylls (58 sp) were major leaf sizes in Dicots. Monocots had 24 nanophyllous species, 13 leptophyllous and 9 microphyllous species. Key words: Mohamand-Bajure Roadside Flora, 337 species, Life forms, leaf size spectra, first documented record Running Heading: Floristic Diversity along Mohamand-Bajure Roadsides
