A NEW RECORD OF MORUS AUSTRALIS IDENTIFIED AND CONFIRMED IN PAKISTAN BY USING DNA BARCODING TECHNIQUE

Hafeeza Amna Saleem
Abstract

Morus is a distinctive multipurpose plant genus. It is economically as well as medicinally very important genus and it has a wide geographical distribution in Pakistan as well and in the world also. From Pakistan, only four species have been reported so far as compared to 13 known Morus species in the world. The taxonomy of this genus still remains complex and disputed as the identification of the existing species of Morus was classified on the basis of their morphological features. An Inadequate research work has been conducted in Pakistan in general specifically to explore the diversity of Morus on the basis of molecular phylogeny. Collected samples were first characterized morphologically and then phylogenetically. Molecular marker ITS and mat K were used to get the phylogenetic analysis. Modified CTAB method was used to extract DNA. Here we are going to describe Morus australis as a new record from Pakistan on morphological and molecular characterization.
