Abstract

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L), an oil plant, is increasingly produced in the world thanks to its high and quality oil content. In order to increase its production, it is important to determine which sunflower variety is suitable for which ecology. The research was carried out in two locations (Erzurum and Igdir) using 10 different cultivars. It was found that the cultivars and locations had significant effects on plant growth, yield, and yield components in both 2016 and 2017. The seed yield and related properties of the sunflower significantly varied depending on the variety and location. While the highest seed yield was obtained from Bosfora (3700.5 kg ha-1) and the highest oil yield (1550.6 kg ha-1) from the genotype Tunca under the ecological conditions of Erzurum, the highest seed and oil yields (3450.8 and 1620.0 kg ha-1, respectively) were obtained from the genotype Tunca under the ecological conditions of Igdır. The results of this study suggest that the soil, climate, and environmental characteristics of growing region play an important role in seed yield and oil content of sunflower.
