CORRELATION ANALYSIS IN YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF UPLAND COTTON (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Arooj Fatima
Abstract

ABSTRACT Study consists of 16 genotype of cotton used as experimental material. Genotypes have sown in vicinity field of University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Four parents and twelve crosses of F2 generation were used as plant material. High significant positive correlation shows between seed cotton yield with monopodial branches per plant and fiber elongation, height of plants with sympodial branches & fiber fineness, monopodial branches with fiber uniformity, sympodial branches with ginning out turn and fiber fineness, boll weight with fiber strength, ginning out urn with fiber fineness. Highly significant negative correlation reveals between yield of seed cotton with plants height, plant length with fiber strength, monopodial branches with seed index, sympodial number of branches with boll mass, fibre span and fiber strength, boll weight with ginning out turn percentage and fibre uniformity, seed index along uniformness fiber in and fiber length, ginning outturn with fiber length and fiber strength, fiber fineness with fiber length and fiber maturity. Significant positively association indicate between seed cotton yield with fiber uniformity, ginning out-turn with plant height, monopodial branches and fiber uniformity. However, significant negative correlation demonstrates between seed cotton yield with sympodial branches and fiber fineness, plant height with fiber length, seed index with fiber strength. As a result selected traits in given genotype will be high seed cotton yield which indicate that these traits essential for yield growth.
