Abstract

Abstract Cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) is known as the most important domestic medicinal plant in Iran. This study was conducted to evaluate the application of magnetic water and superabsorbent on morphophysiological and phytochemical characters of cumin under water requirements. The experiment was done separately in two locations (German and Rahanjan regions, Iran). Magnetic water has two levels (normal and magnetic), water requirements has three levels (100, 75 and 50% field capacity) and superabsorbent has three levels (0, 100 and 200 kgha-1). The variation patterns in cumin growth across different treatments were recognized by stepwise regression and canonical correlation analysis (CCA). The results showed that the lowest grain yield (634.20 kgha-1) was observed in 100 kgha-1 superabsorbent. In Rahanjan location under 75% FC and use of 200 kgha-1 super absorbent by using of magnetic water was observed highest plant height (28.60 cm), stem diameter (0.36 cm), leaf dry weight (3.24 gr), stem dry weight (6.10 gr), number of umbrellas per plant (11.77 no.), number of seeds per umbrella (18.44 no.), grain yield (918.40 kgha-1), membrane stability index (0.39), RWC (14.23%), soluble carbohydrates (7.90%). In German location, the values of measured traits were lower than Rahanjan location. The first two axes of CCA explained 87% of the correlation between treatment variables and cumin characters. Explanatory factors (dry matter, number of umbel in plant, number of seed in umbel, carotenoid, dry weight, HI, K, POD, essential oil and also protein) played a significant role in the response of cumin to the location, water requirement, magnetic water and super absorbent variables . In general, the use of magnetic water and 200 kgha-1 of superabsorbent in conditions of 75% FC has increased the morphological, physiological and biochemical parameters of cumin.
