Abstract

ABSTRACT: Waste management is a recycling practice in which composting of waste is effective technology in making organic fertilizer availability for crop farming as well as in minimizing the waste disposal problem. The aim of the present research was to study the effect of vermicompost prepared from water domestic waste cow dung on growth and germination of bhendi (Abelmoschus esculentus) under field conditions. The experiment was conducted at the sadhasivapuram attur taluk Salem district during September, 2020 to January 2021. Vermicomposting of organic wastes was carried out by using surface burrowing type of earth worms (Udilus ugenia). The field experiment was conducted with six treatments via T0-Control(without treated), T1- 10kg vermicompost, T2 – 20kg vermicompost T3 – 30kg vermicompost, T4 – 40kg vermicompost and T5 – 50kg vermicompost. The results showed significant variations in plant seed germination and growth parameters on par with physico-chemical properties of different vermicompost. The growth characters of bhendi such as seed germination, plant height, numbers of leaves per plant like of days per plant were observed at 07th day from the date of planting. There was maximum value of growth parameters observed in T5-50kg vermicompost followed by Domestic waste vermicompost, cow dung vermicompost and control. Growth parameters also showed the similar trend of growth parameters. The investigation clearly reveals that the morphological Properties of vermicompost play major role in growth of bhendi. Keywords: Vermicompost, Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Udilus ugenia Farm yard Manure, plant growth components
