GENE ACTION, CORRELATION AND VARIABILITY ANALYSIS FOR YIELD CHARACTERS IN SESAME (SESAMUM INDICUM L.)

MUHAMMAD AZMAT
Abstract

The present study was conducted taking F1 progenies of 10×5 line into tester analysis to find out the genetic variation and correlation between different yield contributing traits in sesame. The research was conducted in the department of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. All the accessions were showing the significant variation for almost all the parameters which were recorded during the research work. It showed that the accessions have the enough variability that they can be used for breeding program for the improvement of the sesame. The results of the ratio of general to specific combing ability variance was found to be less than 1, that indicated that the characters were expressed by dominant type of the gene action. The studies on the correlation was carried out at the genotypic level. It was evident from the results that yield was associated positively 1000 seeds weight, grains in capsule, plant height, days to fifty percent flower and percentage of germination. The prominent correlation of production/yield with other parameters of yield showed that the maximum expression of 1000 seed weight, grains per capsule and plant height could enhance the yield of sesame.
